The list consists of insurance companies who have previously approved coverage for high dose chemotherapy followed by stem cell transplant for patients with Amyloidosis. This is a partial list compiled from information provided by the Boston Medical Center. When other treatment centers provide us with information we will update this site and indicate the treatment center where insurance coverage was provided. Please note the last update date and if further information is required about treatment for Amyloidosis, please contact the applicable sites below.

Canadian patients should check with their local Ministry of Health as each province administers its own medical coverage and may or may not include Out of Country treatment for Amyloidosis. The criteria for coverage are not consistent across Canada. Note that insurance companies are generally reluctant to provide coverage because the primary treatment protocol of Amyloidosis (Autologous Stem Cell Rescue and High Dose Chemotherapy) is considered experimental. The information below is extracted from the Medical Services Plan criteria for determining experimental treatment. The wording is probably similar to individual insurers in the United States and other provinces in Canada.

“However, it is recognized that medical research may involve what is generally considered to be accepted therapies or procedures, and the fact that a therapy or procedure is performed as part of a research study or protocol does not preclude it from being a service insured by the “INSURER”.
